Making it Work: The Joys and Challenges of Being Your Own Boss 

In May, Kansai home-business owner Catherine Nakamichi will give us the real scoop on being the boss and what might get “lost in translation!”

Have you ever thought about starting a home-based business? Seems ideal–avoiding the crowded trains, choosing your own hours. But what is the reality? How do small business owners make it happen? Cat’s six-year old translation business, Catlingual, specializes in technical translation in a variety of fields. We’ll learn how she built it from scratch and some of her experiences from the trenches.

Cat will give us her take on the joys and challenges of being your own boss and the key to her success. Regardless of your field, you’ll enjoy hearing her talk about managing work-life balance, building a client base as well as a support system and how to say no (can you?). Hope to see you there!

About the speaker

Catherine Nakamichi is CEO (Chief Everything Officer) of Catlingual, her home-based translation  business. Cat is also on the Board of Directors of JAT (Japan Association of Translators) and chair of the JAT Kansai Activities Team. Her free time is recently filled with dog-related duties, as her family adopted a dog from Tohoku via Kobe-based ARK. Xyris lives with Cat, her husband and two children in Osaka.

Spring Has Arrived!

Come and celebrate the end of a cold winter and new beginnings with FEW Kansai at our annual   Champagne Spring Brunch!

We can all feel a little sluggish after winter so let's start the spring off nice and easy with a few glasses of champagne and some great company at the St Regis Hotel in Honmachi. We have a lovely relaxing party space exclusively for us on the second floor of the French Bistro Rue d'or. A sumptuous buffet will be served and members will have the chance to win prizes. After the success of last years auction we will be offering several items for sale in a live auction with the proceeds going to It's Not Just Mud - a non-profit volunteer organization specializing in disaster relief and rehabilitation of affected individuals and small businesses in the Tohoku region.

So pull out your spring dresses, grab a friend and come along to help FEW Kansai usher in Spring in style!
