John arrived in Japan in 1989 to study the Bizen and Shigaraki ceramic styles, traditional Japanese styles he describes as “the apex of world pottery.” His work has been displayed in numerous galleries, museums, exhibitions, art festivals and colleges in the USA and Japan. Since 1999 his pottery has also been regularly showcased at Hankyu Department Stores in Osaka and Kobe as well as Daimaru in Osaka.
